Lawd I remember going through puberty. And when it came to my underarms I defaulted to the name brand “deodorant” that my mother used. Over time I learned that the stuff I wore wasn’t deodorant at all – it was an antiperspirant. The terms are used interchangeably but they’re not the same at all. Overall I’ve slowly incorporated a more natural lifestyle and it doesn’t stop at eating healthy and exercising. The things we put ON our skin matters as well since it’ll still be absorbed into our bodies. So I started using “all natural” deodorants.
I tried 3 different brands and here’s what happened…

Sometimes life just gets weird, ya know? But lately I’ve decided to take better care of myself physically, mentally and emotionally. For one I’ve stopped working so much and am doing more things that make me happy no matter how small it may seem. Sure I’m all about ambition but before that I’m Candace. I can’t forget that and you shouldn’t forget who you are either. Here are some things that should put a smile on your face.
“You don’t eat meat?!”
“How do you get protein?”
These are two questions that I get asked on a regular basis. I’m not sure why it’s difficult for people to comprehend. Maybe because I’m still fat. But meat isn’t necessarily unhealthy so that’s not the reason I stopped eating it. Find the reason here. For the record, I’m still fat because I eat a bunch of other bad things like ice cream pints (in one sitting), buttery homemade pizza dough and cheesy pasta to name a few.

I like to eat things that are bad for me *lowers head in shame*. But I also want to live a long life free of health complications and medication. One thing I started doing years ago is making sure I always have breakfast. Today I’m sharing my current fave with you. I’ve been making my own pancakes from scratch and they’re way healthier than the box formulas that I was raised on.
Since the January 1st, I’ve been seeing posts everywhere about creating healthier habits. It’s all the buzz every new year! I’m nowhere near 100% as far as clean eating but I’ve gotten much better over time. One question I always get is “Why don’t you eat meat?” My black card is automatically revoked when I say I don’t eat chicken. And I’m assumed to be Muslim when I say I don’t do pork.
But lately I’ve been getting questions from people who want to eat less meat. If you’re on the fence about making a similar change, maybe my experience will help.
Nope, not a Halloween reference!
One of my grandmothers wound up in the hospital last week. Most of my immediate family was on vacation in Florida so I had to jump in. I spent 11 hours in the emergency room that day. And it made me wonder what the everyday shift of an ER nurse looks like.
Let’s be clear – it’s not the job for me.
Who doesn’t like to smell good? Exactly, nobody! I’ve been needing to stock up on some new scents but kept putting that off (nothing new there!).
And then something wonderful happened! I received an invitation to partner with It’s My Hair! Magazine and The Body Shop at Lenox Square Mall in Atlanta. The store was celebrating their grand reopening on Saturday and the place looked great. And they had perfect selfie lighting throughout the store so everyone took plenty of pics.
My body had been going a bit crazy since the beginning of the year and I had no idea why.
