Millennials have changed the game. The American dream for us isn’t all about getting a good job and house with the white picket fence ASAP. Oh no, not anymore. What do we want? A fulfilling career! When do we want it? NOW! We crave freedom and want to make our money on our own terms. Which is exactly why a lot of us are turning to entrepreneurship.
Building a business isn’t easy. Thankfully we have pioneers to look up to that can help deter some bad decision making. But beware! I’ve yet to come across a one size fits all guide to growing a successful business. Even for my own company, I read books and get advice – but will tweak some of the information to fit my goals. By now you might know that I love working on resumes for my clients. Creating a resume that looks might be easy but content is king. Your resume needs to have substance. Alright, you’ve scored big points with the recruiter. Now they’ve invited you to do an interview. I’ve said before that job interviews are a two way street. Today I’m going into how you make that happen.
We all need biography at some point. If you’re in business, if you do performing arts….even when you die people will want to read your story. You should know yourself better than anyone else but it can be hard to take everything and condense it into a snapshot.
I’ve written bios for myself and clients too and want to share some tips that should help get you going.
The process of landing a new job is enough to trigger multiple anxiety attacks. Mix that with a lack of experience (hello recent/upcoming graduates!) and you might be left wondering how you’ll ever get a job.
Of course you need to make sure that your resume is perfect! I’ve given free pointers on what to and what not to do here and here. Once you convince the recruiter on paper, the next step is to impress them in person. Here’s how to do it.
