Winter season will officially begin on the 22nd. Can you believe it?! I’m still trying to grasp onto the fact that we’re really in December. No use in getting bummed about it though! I decided to come up with these cool questions instead. I’ve teamed up with Krystal of The Krystal Diaries and Lexi of Lex Be Livin’ to answer these questions AND to bring you a special winter giveaway! Read on to find out more.
What’s your go to winter outfit?
One word – layers! Cozy boyfriend cardigans are a must for me. Longer cardigans keep my booty covered in case I decide to wear leggings with boots instead of jeans.
What’s winter weather like in your hometown?
I’m from Maryland and weather there usually gets down into the 20’s. Maryland also gets snow just about every year. It doesn’t always add up to much, but most times it’s enough to get at least a day off of work :-.)
Special winter recipes?
I always love a good soup. To be honest I don’t have a signature that I prepare during the cold months, or anytime really! But I like recipes that are hearty and thick like chowders more than brothy types.
Winter holiday traditions?
My family doesn’t do anything super unique. We get a tree, we buy gifts and we eat. Blah, blah, blah. I’ll be changing that once I start a family of my own. A solo tradition that I started I started doing through my business, McGee Manuscript Group is sending gifts, toiletries and snacks to deployed servicemen and servicewomen of the armed forces and their families.
Favorite winter activities?
There’s still a lot to do during the colder months, depending on where you live. As a young lad I liked making snowmen and snow angels. As an adult, the only things I do are defrost my car and try to get it out of its parking spot. Seriously though – you could go ice skating, skiing and have snowball fights! Don’t be like me. Grab a coat and endure!
Winter home decor?
Growing up, the only thing we really decorated was the Christmas tree. And believe me, it was never one for the magazines because we added so much to it. Lights, candy canes, ornaments and a topper. And none of it ever matched. I’m not focusing much on decorations this holiday season since I just moved and I’ll be going back home for Christmas. But next year I definitely plan to have my place decorated showroom worthy. Oh yes, I’m going all out, I can see it now!
Beauty regimen changes during winter?
During these colder months I’m definitely sure to moisturize my skin frequently and consistently. I focus on oil based products to give my skin more protection and I make sure my lips are always coated with chap stack or some other kind of moisturizer.
Favorite holiday song?
Come on now…we both know that I could never choose just one. I did a post of my Christmas playlist last week. You can find that here. My top 3 from that list though…
1 – Dru Hill: This Christmas
2 – Boyz II Men: Let it Snow
3 – Wham!: Last Christmas
Favorite holiday movie?
This will have to be a toss up between “A Christmas Story” and “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” I’m not a big TV or movie watcher (what in the world do I do for fun?!) so please don’t stone me for not having better choices. If you have any epic holiday movies that I must watch, I’d love for you to let me know in the comments!
Who hosts the family gatherings?
I come from a blended family so dinner can be held a bunch of places. On my mom’s side it’s usually at my aunt’s house. On my dad’s side though it could be at his house, an an uncle’s house or my grandmother’s house. We all have a great time together either way!
What changes about you in the winter?
Usually during the colder months I lose weight. Isn’t that backwards? Weird. No…quirky!
Gift bags or gift wrap?
Bags. I’m lazy. I admit that there is an excitement in tearing gift wrap off like a savage that you just won’t get by pulling something out of a bag. So if I’m gifting something awesome, I’ll use wrap. I’ll also do this if the recipient is a child. Let the parents clean up the mess. Ha, ha, ha! *evil grin*
Favorite warm drink for winter?
I don’t have a warm one, but I love love love (repeat 1,000 times) egg nog. It sucks that I can only get it in stores during this time of the year but I guess that’s what makes it so magical. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? By the way, if you have any delicious egg nog recipes to share, please email it to me here. Pretty please and thank you in advance my friend!
What are you excited for this season?
My dad purchased a home this year and he’ll be hosting Christmas dinner. I’m excited about that because it’s the first house that he’s purchased as a single man and I’m so proud of him! I planned his housewarming and was there to pass candy out to the children in his neighborhood for Halloween. So I’m just really excited to continue building on those special memories with him and all of my other family members that will be joining us.
Autumn vs. Winter? Which is your favorite?
Autumn all day! Probably because I’m an autumn baby – birthday 9/28 – #teamlibra! Autumn brings more variety to my life than winter does. For example, I can still wear open toed booties and it’s not so freezing out yet so I’m still able to keep a good social calendar. It’s also easier to keep up with friends in autumn unlike the winter months when they may be travelling or prepping for whatever their holiday plans are for that year.
